Sussex Tech Students Shine at HOSA National Conference

Sussex Tech students Bansri Patel, Priyen Patel and Logan Wharton placed in the top-10 at the HOSA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Several Sussex Technical High School health professions students recently participated in the 2012 Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. The Sussex Tech students qualified for the national competition by winning first place in the state competition. Over the four-day conference, students from Delaware joined more than 5,000 students nationwide in the 56 competitive events.
Three of Sussex Tech’s 12 representatives placed in the top-ten of their competitive events. Priyen Patel came home with a second place Silver medal in Nursing Assisting. Earning sixth place finishes were Logan Wharton in Dental Science and Bansri Patel in Medical Terminology.
Other Sussex Tech students participating in the national HOSA conference were: Career Health Display – Claire Redman and Marissa Graham; Health Education –Taylor Kvilhaug and Jazmin Pilo-Castillo; Physical Therapy – Tori Hearn, who made it to the second round in the skills portion of the contest, and Taylor Hatfield; CPR/First Aid – Lindsay Hetrick and Rachel Mayhorn; Job Seeking Skills – Henson Destine; and Medical Terminology – Chelsea LeCates.
Advisors who accompanied the students to Florida were teachers Jill Lord and Cyndi Saxton and student activities coordinator Dan Zakrociemski.
