Sussex Tech Adult Division Trains New Process Fibre to be Successful in 21st Century

Last year, New Process Fibre Company in Greenwood identified a need to improve their work efficiency by reducing the amount of re-engineered product. They turned to Sussex Tech Adult Division to design a customized training program to help maximize the company’s productivity and profit.

Founded in 1927, New Process Fibre manufactures extrusion, tooling, and stamping of non-metallic components and is a major supplier to many of the largest original equipment manufacturing companies in the world. Employees average 20 plus years of employment with New Process Fibre. However, the company believed training was needed in order for the company to keep up with efficiency in the 21st century.

“The digital technology world had caught up with New Process Fibre and the company recognized they needed help in educating their employees in order to stay competitive,” said Bill Feher, Industrial Training Coordinator for Sussex Tech Adult Division.

As part of its Contract Training Program, Sussex Tech Adult Division developed a three-phase training program designed specifically for the needs of New Process Fibre. First, they conducted literacy assessments of all employees. The results of the assessments were used to develop reading comprehension and basic math skills classes for the employees. They were also used to develop benchmarks for the company’s new hire process. The third phase is developing customized Blueprint Reading classes for New Process Fibre.

The training program’s first two phases were recently completed and the company extended its appreciation to Sussex Tech Adult Division for giving it the tools to achieve an improved workforce that would allow the company to remain competitive with other businesses in a global economy.

According to Human Resources Director Debra Rouse, “an employee who has attended both series of classes has developed a pride in himself and a sense of self-esteem that he never had before. His experience with this program … has given him the confidence to go on his own for your computer class as well.”

Sussex Tech Adult Division developed the program through a partnership with the Delaware Economic Development Office.
