Sponsors sought for inaugural race on March 9

Sussex Tech High School is hosting the first ever Race for Coach Nic 5K on Saturday, March 9, with proceeds to support the Lou Nicoletti Scholarship for a track & field athlete, as well as benefiting the cross-country and track & field teams.

Nicoletti retired last year after more than four decades of service, including as a social studies and history teacher and a track and cross-country coach. He was the 1995-95 District Teacher of the Year, and won many coach of the year honors as well.

“There is no better way to honor Mr. Nicoletti’s long service and mentorship of our cross-country and track & field student-athletes than with a race,” said head track & field coach Dontez Collins, who was one of Nicoletti’s athletes during his time as a student at Sussex Tech. “We want to show our appreciation and also support one senior athlete with this inaugural scholarship.”

Sponsors are being sought for the race, with gold ($300), silver ($200) and bronze ($100) levels available. For questions, contact Dontez Collins at dontez.collins@sussexvt.k12.de.us.

The race will take place at 10 a.m. March 9, rain or shine, on the 3.1-mile cross-country course that was designed by Nicoletti. Registration will be from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Pre-registration is $22 online at seashorestriders.com, and same-day registration is $25.

T-shirts will be guaranteed to pre-registered runners. Awards will be presented to the male/female overall and master champions, as well as the top three finishers in eight age groups, ranging from 13 and up to 70 and over.
