SAT (Reasoning Test)

The SAT is a test required by most 4 year colleges and universities.

  • The SAT has 3 sections: Critical Reading, Math, and Writing.
  • The SAT costs $52.50. (Fee waivers are available for junior/seniors with free/reduced lunch – see your counselor.)
  • Sussex Tech is not a testing site. Sign up to take the SAT at one of the schools throughout the county that are testing sites (Laurel, Milford, Seaford, Sussex Central).
  • Register early to get your most convenient testing site and to avoid late fees.
  • Register online at or see your counselor for registration booklets and materials.
  • Booklets with practice tests are available in Student Services. SAT prep books are also available in the Career Center in Student Services; sample questions are also online at .

The PSAT is designed as a practice test for the SAT. 10th and 11th graders thinking about attending a 4 year college should take the PSAT. The test is only offered once a year.

Other Tests

  1. The ACT is a college admissions test similar to the SAT. Many colleges accept the ACT in place of the SAT. Contact the counselors or for additional information.
  2. The CPT (Computerized Placement Test) is used by Delaware Tech to place students in appropriate classes at Delaware Tech (the SAT is not required at Del Tech, but they will accept it). Contact Delaware Tech or the counselors for more information.
  3. The SAT Subject Tests may be required by some colleges in addition to the standard SAT. Find out more information from or student services.
