| It is nearing the time to close a major chapter in your student’s life. This is a time of emotion and activity. When done well, this season will provide a lifetime of great memories. At this time of celebration, please remind your student of important dates and requirements to ensure positive and wonderful memories of the upcoming milestones.
The Senior Awards Ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 30th at 6:00 PM in Sussex Technical High School’s Gymnasium. Students will be recognized by local and regional organizations, as well as high school faculty, for scholarships, merit, military, and outstanding school performance. Awards may include certificates, plaques, and/or scholarships. Students receiving awards will be notified, and parents are invited to attend; however, they will not find out what award they will receive until the evening of the ceremony. Commencement Ceremony rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, May 31st at 9:00 AM in Sussex Technical High School’s gymnasium. Caps and gowns will be distributed at rehearsal. Tickets for the ceremony will be distributed during the rehearsal. Rehearsal is mandatory. Students not attending rehearsal may be excluded from participation in the Commencement Ceremony. Following rehearsal, our seniors will have a Class of 2023 picnic on grounds (weather permitting). Please note that this is for our Class of 2023 members only. We ask that our seniors do not invite guests to this school-based event. The Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 1st at 6:00 PM. in our Raven’s Stadium. During an outdoor ceremony, our gates will open at 4:30 PM. There will be eight tickets for an outdoor ceremony. There will be five purple and three green. Parents / guardians will want to be in possession of the green tickets at all times.
The link to live-stream our ceremony will be available on our website approximately 48-hours prior to graduation. Graduates will be required to report to our gymnasium by 5:00 PM on the night of graduation. (If indoors, graduates will enter at the main entrance and lineup in the 800-wing hallway). Acceptable dress under the gowns will be a white shirt and tie, black dress pants, and black dress shoes for the young men. The ladies should wear a light-colored dress (the hemline should be above the gown which is approximately mid-calf) or light-colored dress slacks, stockings, and white low heels or dress flats. NO TENNIS SHOES. If students show up inappropriately dressed (jeans, tennis shoes, shorts) they will not be allowed to march. Ladies, please bring bobby pins to secure your caps. If students cannot obtain these clothing items, they should contact a school counselor at Sussex Technical High School as soon as possible. Students will only be permitted onto the floor wearing caps and gowns as intended. Students or parents who have questions regarding clothing items should bring those items to the attention of the high school administration. Please make sure all clothing meets the expectations prior to the day of the event. Students who have obligations will not be permitted to receive their caps/gowns until the obligations are met. Diplomas will also be held until all fees are collected. Please verify that your child has met all obligations. This is an exciting time of the year for seniors and their families. There are a variety of resources we have to offer at Sussex Technical High School to help your students navigate the end of their high school career.
