Sussex Tech’s JROTC Cadets Participate in 9-11 Ceremony

The Sussex Technical High School Army JROTC was invited to present the colors during a Patriot’s Day ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11. The ceremony was held in the Ballroom of the Heritage Shore Clubhouse in Bridgeville.

Accepting an invitation from John Barr, chairman of the Military Club of Heritage Shore, the Sussex Tech JROTC featured Battalion Commander Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Maddie Crimmins singing the National Anthem. Patriotic songs were also sung during the program by the Peninsulaires Barber Shop Harmony Society of Salisbury.

Guest speaker was Delaware Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn. Other speakers at the remembrance ceremony included former Marine Vaughn Russell, an Iwo Jima survivor, and former Marine Brendan Lynch.

Sussex Tech JROTC Cadets attending the ceremony were Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Mary Bay of Seaford, Cadet Staff Sergeant Kaycee Bean of Laurel, Cadet Staff Sergeant Robert Christensen of Harbeson, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Maddie Crimmins of Millsboro, Cadet Caption Austin Purdy of Fenwick Island, and Cadet Command Sergeant Jonah Riale of Georgetown. Accompanying the cadets was Major (Ret.) Ben Jester, instructor.
