Sussex Technical High School freshman Michelle Laz and 2011 graduate Aris Reynoso were nominees for Delaware Electric Co-op’s Athlete of the Year Award sponsored by Hola Media Network. Receiving the honor was Michelle Laz.
The Hola Awards were organized in 2009 by Kevin Andrade, owner of Hola Media Network, as a way to recognize members of the community who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to positively benefit the Hispanic community of Sussex County. Public voting was done on Facebook, Holaawards.com and by calling in to Maxima 900, the flagship radio station of Hola Media.
Michelle Laz is a 14-year-old who plays center forward on three soccer teams, including the USA National Region 1 team. Michelle has also taken first place in thirteen 5K’s over the past five years. The Sussex Tech freshman hopes to one day play for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
While at Sussex Tech, Aris Reynoso was a two-time All-State and three-time All-Conference soccer player for the Ravens. He netted 30 varsity goals in his high school career and played forward, midfield, and defense. Aris is now preparing to play soccer for Wesley College.
