2013 graduate Joe Yawn visited Sussex Tech on October 18 during a school break from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Academy’s mission is to educate and graduate licensed merchant marines as leaders of exemplary character who will serve America’s marine transportation and defense needs in peace and war.
Joe reported to the Academy on July 2 to begin his training and started his first academic trimester on August 1. He has selected Marine Transportation as his major. When asked what he is looking forward to most while at the Academy, Joe said, “I can’t wait to go to sea, see the world, and gain the knowledge that only comes with hands-on experience.”
2013 graduate Bethany Killmon finished seventh to lead the Misericordia University women’s cross country team to a third place finish at the recent Lebanon Valley Invitational. As a freshman, Bethany is ranked number one on the varsity team.
2011 graduate Maxine Fluharty went the length of the field to score with 49 seconds to play in regulation time to send her top-ranked Maryland University field hockey team into overtime against No. 4 Syracuse. The Lady Terrapins went on to win, 2-1.
Several other graduates are excelling in college running: 2013 graduate Chelsea Lecates is a member of the cross country and track teams at the University of Delaware; 2013 graduate Amanda Sava is running varsity as a freshman at Florida Tech; 2012 Isabel Wharton is running at Indiana Wesleyan and as a junior continuously finishes in the top-three positions; and 2011 Emily Ritter is the number one runner on the cross country team at Ryder University.
2008 graduate Josh Marshall is working for a Michigan NBC branch in the Flint-Saganaugh region and getting face time as a newscaster. He will shortly be transferred to Sacramento, California, to work with NBC there.
